The TERI School of Advanced Studies (TERI SAS) was set up as a trust by TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) – a not-for-profit, independent research institute recognized globally for its contribution to scientific and policy research in the realms of energy, environment, and sustainable development in 1998.

In 1999, it was granted the ‘Deemed to be University’ status by University Grants Commission (UGC) and notified vide the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Education, Government of India, notification no. F.9/19/95-U-3, dated October 5, 1999.

In October 2006, it was re-named TERI University, with the approval of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and was known as such till November 2017.

TERI School of Advanced Studies (TERI SAS) is ranked top among the institutes in the state.


Awards

In 2012, it was given the India Today Award for the Most Innovative Curriculum, for "incorporating elements in education that are the need of the hour by understanding and adapting to change." In 2013, it was awarded as the "Greenest University and Research Institution" by RTCC at COP 19 at Warsaw.
