Re: PTU Boeing
As you have asked about the Power Transmission Unit (PTU) of Boeing, I am giving you some information about it, check below for the details Power Transfer Unit is a device which is part of Boeing hydraulic system For flight-critical systems such as hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical power, a number of techniques are used to achieve the level of reliability required by regulatory agencies. Duplicating systems, physically separating them and having each one power dissimilar outputs are three examples of design techniques The hydraulics architecture on the Boeing 737 is different: There are two hydraulic systems, “A” and “B”, which are always active, and a Standby system activated when a fault is present. The PTU on the Boeing is only activated when there is a shortage of power to the leading edge flaps and slats. The PTU is able to operate the hydraulic motor generator during all phases of flight. It cycles on whenever an engine is started, and may repeatedly cycle on and off whenever pressure in one system drops below a certain point. While it would engage in the event of a failure, in day-to-day operations it is commonly used during taxiing when one engine is shut down to conserve fuel. |
