The promotional prospects are bright and Officers can reach upto the level of Deputy Inspector General and Inspector General.

An Inspector in ITBP with 5 years of regular service becomes eligible for promotion to the rank of Assistant Commandant

After 6 year of service as an Assistant Commandant, he becomes eligible to the position of Deputy Commandant.

After 11 years in Group-A (Class-I) service including 5 year service as Deputy Commandant, the officer can get promotion to the rank of Second-in-Command.

With 15 year Group-A (Class-I) service including 4 years as Second-in-Command the officer becomes eligible to get promoted to the rank of Commandant.
