To get a job in Railways after 12th you need to appear in the Special Class Railway Apprentice examination which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission India. Here are the details of this exam:

Eligibility:
The applicant must have passed in the 1st or 2nd division, the 12th or an equivalent examination of a board approved by the Government of India with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination.

Age - limits:
17-21 years on 1st August of the year of examination

Paper-I General Ability Test (English, General Knowledge and Psychological Test)
Paper-II Physical Sciences (Physics and Chemistry)

Railway Recruitment Board conducts exam for the selection of candidates in railways. It releases notification in “Employment News” or on the website.
The selection is made strictly as per performance in written examination. Apart from this Aptitude/Skill Test/Interview etc. may also be conducted wherever applicable. Short listed candidates will be called for verification of the original documents according to merit, availability of vacancies and reservation rules.
There will be negative marking in written examination and marks shall be deducted for each wrong answer.
The syllabus for the written examination will be according with the educational standards or technical qualifications recommended for the posts. The Questions will be of objective type with multiple choices. The question paper will be in English, Hindi and Urdu as well as in local languages prevails in the influence of each RRB. The duration of the examination will be 1½ to 2 hours with approximately 100 to 150 questions.
Stages of examination will be given alongside each post. According to the performance of candidates in the examination, the candidates’ equivalent to the number of vacancies will be called for document authentication in the main list. In addition 30% additional candidates are also called as standby applicants and they are considered for empanelment only if there is lack in empanelment from the main list.
