The Department of Civics and Politics of University of Mumbai was established in 1948 with the help of two Endowments - Mayor Sir Pherozeshah Mehta Centenary Commemoration Fund and the Montague Memorial Fund together with a donation from the Bombay Municipal Corporations Municipal Fund and a substantial recurring grant from the then Government of Bombay.

(a) M.A. Hons. (Politics)
Duration - 2 years (Semester pattern)

(b) M.A. Hons. (Public Policy)
Duration - 2 years (Semester pattern)
Intake Capacity – 35

(c) M.Phil. (Politics)
Duration - 1 year
Intake Capacity - 30
The students have to study three theory papers and submit a dissertation on any political issue.

(d) Ph.D. in Politics
The admission to Ph.D is by clearing PET examination. The candidates who have cleared M.Phil/SET/NET are exempted from PET exam.

(e) Post Graduate Diploma Course in Human Rights
Duration - 1 year
Intake Capacity - 70
The students have to study three theory papers and submit a dissertation on a topic related to human rights.

(f) Post Graduate Diploma Course in International Studies
Duration - 1 year
Intake Capacity - 30
The students have to study four theory papers and submit a dissertation on a topic related to international studies.

(g) Post Graduate Certificate Course in Right to Information
Duration – 6 months
Intake Capacity - 40
The students have to study three theory papers including a continuously assessed project on topics related to Right to Information
