The Kent State University Basic Peace Officer Training Academy is committed to offering the best academy training available for those interested in pursuing a career as a police officer or corrections officer.

Requirements for admission to Basic Peace Officer training

Prospective cadets must meet the following minimum standards in order to apply:


High School Diploma or GED
Must be 20 or turning 20 years of age.
Must be in good physical condition. Minimums Fitness Requirements
Must have a valid driver's license.
Must not have any Felony or Drug Convictions, or arrests for Domestic Violence.

General Academy Requirements and Policies

Student must comply with dress code.
Student must author & maintain notebooks.
Student must attend 100% of classes.
Student must pass state certification exam with at least 70%.
