Re: Piping Design Course In IIT Chennai

The Department Of Engineering Design, Indian Institute of Technology IIT Chennai provide Design of Heat Exchangers, pressure vessels and piping course.

Design of Heat Exchangers, pressure vessels and piping Subject

No. ED5319

Objectives:

To give a broad exposure to heat exchangers & related equipment and to acquaint the students with their actual designs, involving layout, thermal and mechanical design, with real examples from the industry.

OUTCOME: The student, at the end of the course, should be able –

• To conceive a design based on the information provided for a particular application
• To learn the sizing of the equipment
• To predict the thermal behavior and carry out a stress analysis
• To come up with a mechanical design as per the relevant codes
• To do the cost economic analysis

2. Course Contents:

• HEAT EXCHANGERS
Classification of Heat Exchangers. Thermal design using ε-NTU, P-NTU and LMTD methods and optimisation, effectiveness. Calculation of heat Transfer Coefficient and Pressure Drops in LMTD/ ε-NTU method. Mechanical design of baffles and tube sheets

• PRESSURE VESSELS
Design of tall, self-supporting process columns, supports for short vertical vessels, Design of nozzle and openings, Theory of Reinforcement

• PIPING
