IARI (Indian Agricultural Research Institute) got the status of a "Deemed to be University" in 1958, under the University Grants Commission Act of 1956 and is authorised to award post graduate degrees of M.Sc./M. Tech and Ph. D in the field of Agricultural Sciences.

The Institute has also imparted training in specialized areas of agricultural sciences through training programmes funded by the ICAR, DBT, DST and other organizations.

The Institute has introduced Best Faculty Awards for excellence in teaching to the scientists of the Institute for their untiring efforts in improving the teaching in different subjects. These awards have motivated the faculty to improve the teaching.

The courses are regularly reviewed and updated and world class library and laboratory facilities are provided. These efforts are reflected in the success of IARI students who invariably comprise of candidates selected through national competitions.

PG School, IARI Management System is developed under the IASRI institute funded project "Management System for Post Graduate Education" by Division of Computer Applications, IASRI. The system helps in achieving the PG School objectives by giving online access to various resources. The system is available to students, faculty members, scientists and administrative staff of PG School, IARI.

The academic activity at the Institute is regulated by the Academic Council with Director, IARI as its Chairperson and the Dean as Vice-Chairperson.
