No it is not necessary to choose optional subjects in civil services from graduation. It is up to your interest. You can choose any subject Optional Subjects for Civil Services Main Exam You have to opt any one subject. Optional paper consists of two papers of 250 marks each. Group 1 Agriculture Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science Anthropology Botany Chemistry Civil Engineering Commerce and Accountancy Economics Electrical Engineering Geography Geology History Law Management Mathematics Mechanical Engineering Medical Science Philosophy Physics Political Science and International Relations Psychology Public Administration Sociology Statistics Zoology Group 2 You can choose the literatures as an optional subject, only if you have graduated in the literature of that particular language as the main subject.
