In light of the demand for help made by the Government of Sri Lanka and as an outflow of our solidarity, Prime Minister of India, reported on May 19, 2016 that India would give help on crisis premise to help those influenced by the surges and avalanches in different parts of Sri Lanka. In accordance with this dedication, India dispatched two boats of the Indian Navy from Kochi on the morning of May 20, 2016, conveying different alleviation supplies. That day, an Indian Air Force C-17 transport air ship was likewise sent with extra supplies.

The C-17 flying machine, bearing 50 tons of alleviation material, arrived at Katunayake airplane terminal. Its load included 700 tents, 1000 canvas sheets, 10 electric generators, 100 crisis lights and medicine against plagues for 10,000 individuals, aside from lights, rain coats, umbrellas, collapsing sleeping cushions, water channels and water sanitization gear. Independently, the two Indian Navy Ships (INS Sutlej and INS Sunayna) docked at Colombo Port. Their payload of more than 30 tons was given over by High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka. This included inflatable boats, diving gear, restorative supplies, drinking water, water refinement tablets, apportions and consumables. Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and senior authorities from Sri Lanka Navy were additionally present on the event.
