The Operational Research Society of India was founded in 1957 to provide a forum for the Operational Research Scientists. It is affiliated to the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS).

The Society has twelve operating chapters located in Agra, Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Durgapur, Jamshedpur, Kolkata, Madurai, Meerut, Mumbai and Tirupati.
