Re: Official GMAT Practice Test

As you are looking for Official GMAT Practice Test paper, so on your demand I am providing same for you here :

The average (arithmetic mean) of the weight of 10 vehicles is 12 tons. The average weight of the group of vehicles increased by 2.4 tons after a new heavy-duty truck was added to the group. What is the weight of the heavy duty truck?

a) 35 tons
b) 38.4 tons
c) 40.2 tons
d) 41.4 tons
e) 42 tons
The first step is to set the problem up properly. Originally we have x/10 = 12, where x represents the sum of the 10 vehicles. The sum of the vehicles is therefore 120 tons.

Next, a heavy duty car m is added to the weight. By adding the weight of the 11th vehicle and taking the average we are told that the average will increase by 2.4 from 12 to 14.4. To calculate the weight of m, we create the equation: (120 + m)
11 = 14.4 = Now we solve for m.

m = 38.4 tons. The correct answer is (B).
