I heard that National Institute of Fashion Technology Mumbai is not approved by AICTE. Tell me is National Institute of Fashion Technology Mumbai approved by AICTE or not? Also tell me Is the degree offered by National Institute of Fashion Technology Mumbai is valid for government job?

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is the public institute of fashion design, management and technology education in India established in 1986 in New Delhi under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, with curriculum and faculty support from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), in Manhattan, New York City.


It was made a statutory institute in 2006 by an Act of the Indian Parliament with the President of India as ‘Visitor’ and has fully fledged campuses all across India. Over the years it has also been working as a knowledge service provider to the Union and State governments in the area of design development and positioning of handlooms and handicrafts.


NIFT is an autonomous institution which can award its own degree as per NIFT Act of 2006 of Indian Parliament, Government of India. It does not require All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approval.

NIFT Campuses

NIFT is pioneering thought leadership in design through a network of 16 professionally managed campuses. The Campus at New Delhi was established in 1986 in collaboration with FIT, New York.

The Campuses at Chennai, Gandhinagar, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai were set up in 1995 and that of Bengaluru in 1997. The new millennium witnessed emergence of new campuses in Bhopal, Bhubneshwar, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Patna, Raebareli and Shillong. The Campus at Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir is the newly added node to NIFT's network.
