Obesity as you very well that is mother of all diseases as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and even some cancers. India has the highest diabetic population in the world and is expected to grow. Consensus Points arrived at the summit: (these are much lower than the international standards) 1.Diagnostic cutoffs for BMI: (a) Overweight : 23 (b) Obese : 25 (c) For initiation of Drug therapy : 25 (d) For initiation of Bariatric surgery: 32.5 2.Diagnostic cutoffs for waist circumference for diagnosis of abdominal obesity (a)Men > 90cm (b)Women >80cm |
