Indian Engineering Services (IES) exam, also known as Engineering Services Examination (ESE), is a national level recruitment exam organised by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

It is conducted to recruit candidates for engineering positions for the various departments working under the Government of India. It is conducted for four branches of engineering namely:

Civil Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering

IES Selection Procedure 2020

IES ESE Selection Procedure is conducted in the following three stages:


Stage 1 - IES Prelims Exam
The Engineering Preliminary exam is the screening test to qualify for the IES mains exam.
The questions asked in the IES prelims exam are objective questions (MCQs).
In it, there will be two papers, one is General Studies for 200 marks and the other is engineering paper (according to candidate’s choice - Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and Electronics, and Telecommunications) for 300 marks.


Stage 2 - IES Mains Exam
One who qualifies prelims will appear for the IES mains exam.
In the IES mains exam, there are two conventional papers based on one’s engineering discipline - Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and Electronics, and Telecommunications.
In the IES mains exam, UPSC tests the candidates engineering knowledge deeply. There will be 300 marks for each paper.


Stage 3 - IES Interview/ Personality Test
The Interview/Personality test which is attended by one whose name appears in the merit list prepared on the basis of the Mains.

The outcome will be based on reports analysis or marks scored in the final round or through an aggregate evaluation of the three rounds.

Jobs In Railway-IES Indian Engineering Services

I am preparing for the IES (Indian Engineering Services) exams and want to know different jobs available in Indian Railway after clearing the IES exam. Please provide me the lists of available jobs at railways along with the eligibility criteria for those pots?
