This is a central authority for taking care of all the meteorological work in the country. At present IMD is under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES). There are separate Divisions to deal with specialized subjects. They are: - Agricultural Meteorology Civil Aviation Climatology Hydrometeorology Instrumentation Meteorological Telecommunication Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre Positional Astronomy Satellite Meteorology Seismology Training Some of the main research and development activities currently in progress are given below : All aspects of thunderstorms, local severe storms, tropical cyclones and monsoons.
