Re: Difficulty of IAS Exam

The UPSC exam IAS is a difficult exam, but it is not insurmountable. There are various difficulties in IAS exam.

The first factor that makes the IAS exam tough is the UPSC exam pattern. It consists of three stages:

UPSC Prelims
UPSC Mains
UPSC Board Interview

Candidates have to cross each stage to move onto the next. And it can be rightly said that the difficulty factor increases with each stage.

The last stage can also be a tough nut to crack because in the UPSC tests not only candidates knowledge and ability to write but also their personality and ability to deal with situations.

It takes a special kind of preparation to overcome the UPSC interview stage.

The level of difficulty is increased and this will have an effect on the cut-off marks as well.

There could be a 2-3 points drop from 105.3 marks, was the cut-off for Prelims.

Paper I is of 200 marks and contained the following sections:

Section Questions
History, Art and Culture 19
Economy 17
Polity 14
Environment and Ecology 14
Geography 12
Others (science & technology, international organization, current affairs) 24
