Re: Kitasato University oriental medicine

The Kitasato Institute, the parent body of the Oriental Medicine Research Center, is a private medical research institute established in November 1914 by Dr. Shibasaburo Kitasato.

The Center has played a pioneering role in the study of Oriental medicine.

The Center will continue to focus on research, using Western medicine to complement Oriental medicine, to realize comprehensive healthcare practiced at an even higher level.

The Oriental Medicine Research Center provides two types of clinical activities: medical treatment based on Kampo medicine theory, primarily using decoctions, and acupuncture that follows our countrys traditional techniques.

The Clinical Research Department carries out research to increase the objectivity of traditional diagnostic and treatment methods of Kampo medicine and acupuncture used clinically, and to establish methods for their evaluation.

Healthcare services offered by the Oriental Medicine Research Center's Department of Kampo Medicine and Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion are not covered by the National Health Insurance scheme.

If tests and other procedures are required, however, you may be referred to the adjacent Kitasato Institute Hospital, so make sure to bring your health insurance card when you visit them.
