The Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu has established 464 Polytechnics colleges in the State which offer following programs in Engineering and Technology streams. Admissions: Diploma Courses: Eligibility: Candidates, who have done 10th class, can apply for admission in Polytechnic Colleges and who have done 12th class, can apply for Catering Institutions. Lateral Entry into Diploma Courses: For lateral entry, candidates must have finished 10th class and 2 years ITI. Such candidates can apply direct for admission in the 2nd year of the 3 year Diploma programme in all Polytechnics colleges. Post Diploma Courses: Applicants, who have finished Diploma course, are eligible for applying for Post Diploma courses in respective branches. PG course admission: The Directorate of Tamil Nadu provides admission in PG courses of all the institutes of state on the basis of TANCET (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test).
