| Raman Vij | Re: Finance minister of India The Minister of Finance or finance minister is the head of the Ministry of Finance of the Government of India. One of the senior-most offices in the Union Cabinet, the finance minister is responsible for the fiscal policy of the government. One presents the annual Union Budget in Parliament which details the government's plan for taxation and spending in the coming financial year. Right now, as on 19th Feb 2015, the Finance Minister of India is Arun Jaitley who was born 28 December 1952. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the current Leader of the House at Rajya Sabha. He graduated in Commerce from Shri Ram College of Commerce, New Delhi in 1973. He passed his Law degree from the University of Delhi. He was President of the Students Union of Delhi University in 1974. Jaitley has been married to Sangeeta Jaitley since 24 May 1982 and have two children, a son named Rohan and a daughter named Sonali. In the 2014 general election, he contested as BJP’s candidate for Amritsar, where he was defeated by Indian National Congress candidate, Captain Amarinder Singh.
