Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) was an admission exam used by some institutes in India as the first step in the admission to postgraduate programs in management. In 2011 it was discontinued and replaced by Common Admission Test (CAT).


CAT exam is a common aptitude test which is a gateway to IIMs and over 1200 B-schools in India. It is conducted by one of the IIMs in the month of November in online mode in over 156 cities.

The exam is held in two slots and the question paper comprises 100 MCQs from Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Quantitative Ability (QA).


CAT Syllabus

Quantitative Aptitude
Number: Number System, Sequence, Series and Progression
Arithmetic: Averages, Simplification, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Profit and Loss, Speed, Time and Distance
Algebra: Functions, Quadratic and Linear Equations, Inequalities, Logarithms
Geometry and Mensuration: Geometry, Mensuration, Coordinate Geometry
Modern Maths: Permutations and Combinations, Probability, Set Theory, Maxima and Minima, Trigonometry


Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
Unseen Passages, Analogies, Antonyms, Contextual usage, Fill in the blanks, Para Jumble, Para Completion, Fact Inference Judgement, Sentence Correction, Meaning/Usage match


Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
Tables, Data Sufficiency, Pie Charts, Caselets, Combination of Graphs, Analogies, Critical Reasoning, Seating Arrangement, Logical Deduction, Cause and Effect, Analogies, Binary logics, Calendars, clocks and cubes, Blood Relations, Venn Diagrams, etc.

+3 marks for the correct answer -1 mark for an incorrect answer

CAT Marking Scheme

CAT will have two types of questions– MCQs and Non-MCQs. Both the type of questions will carry equal marks. Here is the CAT Marking Scheme for your reference:

Total Questions- 100
Total Marks- 300
Marks for Each Correct Answer- +3 marks
Marks for Each Incorrect Answer- -1 score.
Negative Marking for Non-MCQs- No
Questions Left Blank- No mark

I want to apply for the Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) for admission in MBS course so tell me the eligibility criteria to apply for this entrance exam? also provide me the application form of the Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET)?
