Social Studies

No. of hours: 30

Credit: 1

OBJECTIVES

To sensitize the students to the various social issues prevailing at the National and International level
To enable students to become proactive and responsible citizens

UNIT I

Education-Objectives and Challenges, Challenges faced in todays Educational System. Academic Life-Its Relevance Co-education and its Implications - Merits and Demerits


UNIT II

Society – A Broad Definition of Society Introduction to the Various Social Problems About Sex Workers- Drug Addiction, Corruption, Crime, Dowry, Bonded Labour and Child issues, Beggary, Communal Harmony.


UNIT III

Social Reform and Movements - Transforming the Society, Social Reform in India and abroad Contribution of the Social Reformers - Gandhi, EVR, Marx, Martin Luther King and Medha Patkar


UNIT IV

Bioethics - Definition, Relevance and Scope, Present National Scenario
Mass Communication - Merits and Demerits, Impact on Family and Society, Cyber Media and Media Ethics.


UNIT V

a) Population Explosion, Population Vs Development, Family Planning and Population Control.
b) Health and Hygiene, Health for all, Civic Sense, Building Good Health.

I have taken admission in the Madras University and from there I am doing the B.Sc Value Education want the syllabus. Can you please provide me the B.Sc Value Education 2nd year syllabus of this University? Also tell me is syllabus available at the University website also?

Unit I: Value education-its purpose and significance in the
present world Value system The role of culture and
civilization-Holistic living Balancing the outer and inner
Body, Mind and Intellectual level- Duties and responsibilities.

Unit II : Salient values for life- Truth, commitment, honesty
and integrity, forgiveness and love, empathy and ability to
sacrifice, care, unity , and inclusiveness, Self esteem and self
confidence, punctuality Time, task and resource management
Problem solving and decision making skills- Interpersonal
and Intra personal relationship Team work Positive and
creative thinking

Unit III : Human Rights Universal Declaration of Human
Rights Human Rights violations National Integration Peace
and non-violence Dr. A P J Kalams ten points for englightened
citizenship Social Values and Welfare of the citizen The
role of media in value building.

Unit IV: Environment and Ecological balance
interdependence of all beings living and non-living. The
