National Institutes for Medical Herbalist was established 1864 by a group of herbalists from the north of England, it is a professional body regulating medical herbalists in the United Kingdom.

Can you list me the courses that are necessary to be eligible to apply for membership of NIMH (National Institute of Medical Herbalists)? Also list me the types of Membership it offers?

The National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH) is a professional body regulating medical herbalists in the United Kingdom. It was established in 1864. It has at least 500 active and 300 non-active members and organizes annual conferences.

NIMH Accreditation

The following undergraduate B Sc Herbal Medicine courses are accredited by the NIMH or the EHTPA. Only Graduates of these courses are eligible to apply for NIMH membership.

Lincoln College with validation by Lincoln University

BSc (Hons) Western Herbal Medicine

Westminster University

Herbal Medicine BSc/ Msci

Graduates from the following courses are eligible to apply for NMH membership:

Middlesex University

BSc (Hons) Western Herbal Medicine (closed to new intake)

University of East London

BSc (Hons) Western Herbal Medicine (closed to new intake)

Napiers University

BSc (Hons) Western Herbal Medicine (closed to new intake)

Middlesex University

Applications from graduates of the PGDip / MSc Western Herbal Medicine will be considered.

Types of Membership

There are three categories of professional membership of NIMH:

Practicing Member includes presently practicing members of NIMH who are subject to NIMH’s rules and regulations under the Memorandum & Articles, Code of Ethics, Code of Practice, Disciplinary & Complaints procedures and other policies required of NIMH council to guarantee Fitness to Practice.

Non-practicing Member includes members who are currently taking a leave of absence from their practice but are intend to return to practice in future.

Retired Member normally includes former practicing NIMH members now in retirement and no longer practicing.

Professional NIMH members can be recognized by the letters MNIMH or FNIMH after their name.

Life membership can be offered by Council to members who have made an extraordinary contribution to the field of Herbal Medicine.
