The National Eye Bank, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi was founded by Prof L.P. Agarwal in 1965. Since its establishment, the National Eye Bank has been guided by the Chief of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences and the Officer-in-charge.

The National Eye Bank is situated at the centre and has an enviable voluntary donor list.
This year 641 donor eyes were received and 463 keratoplasties were done. The eyes are also supplied to other keratoplasty units on demand.
