The Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM) is a project of the Afghanistan Ministry of Education and candidates who attend this are also doing their secondary education. Daily Activities On a regular basis the Winter Academy attendees participate in a variety of classes including music theory and history of both Western and Indo-Afghan traditions, practice and perform in various ensembles, take individual instrumental lessons, attend master classes and presentations by master musicians, take culturally enhancing field trips, and much more. The Academy includes a series of weekly concerts. The concerts feature guests performing side by side with faculty and students.. Winter Music Academy Programs Private Lessons, Group Lessons, Master Classes Private lessons are for forty-five minutes. Faculty can choose to give students more than one lesson per week, and are encouraged to do so. Group lessons can also take place during time designated as practice time. The process of scheduling will also try to offer a variety of activities to sustain candidate interest. Elective Classes The Academy offers the chance for students and teachers to develop deeper into specific musical topics that can be too focused or too entertaining to be part of the regular musical program. Ensembles ANIM Ensembles continue to meet throughout the academy. The Winter Academy also facilitates and encourages the formation of new ensembles. Academic Music Courses Candidates study and participate in academic music courses that cover the following Topics: Afghan Music History Afghan Regional Folk Music Analysis & Musical Forms Western Music History Western Music Theory Ear Training (Rhythm, Sight-Singing & Solfeggio) Harmony Music Pedagogy Music & Business Orchestration Sound Recording Theory of Afghan Classical Music World Music Fee Structiue The Afghanistan National Institute of Music is proud to announce there are no tuition fees and all instruments and materials are provided by the institute only. Students with financial difficulties are eligible for the sponsorship program to guarantee their ability to attend.
