Shimla Municipal Corporation is one of the most seasoned regions of India and has gone through many slings and bolts amid its last one hundred and forty five years of presence.

It was first constituted as Municipal Committee in December, 1851, under the arrangements of Act XXVI of 1850. At first named Municipal Commissioners were Government authorities. The main races were hung on August 26, 1855 after the initially meeting of the board of trustees made out of the Deputy Commissioner; Senior Assistant Commissioner; Medical Officer; and an Executive Engineer; together with house proprietors.
