Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd (MRVC Ltd) is a Public Sector Undertaking of Govt. of India under Ministry of Railways (MoR) and was incorporated under Companies Act, 1956 on 12th July 1999 with an equity capital of Rs. 25 crore shared in the ratio of 51:49 between Ministry of Railways and Government of Maharashtra.

The Mumbai Suburban Railway System is the most complex, densely loaded and intensively utilized system in the world and it has the maximum passenger density in the world at 7.2 million commuters travel everyday. It has two zonal Railways, Western Railway (WR) and Central Railway (CR), operate the Mumbai Suburban Railway System.

The Objectives of Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation are as follows:

Integrate suburban rail capacity enhancement plans with urban development plan for Mumbai and propose investments.
Implement the rail infrastructure projects in Mumbai suburban sections.
Commercially develop Railway land and airspace in Mumbai area to raise funds for suburban railway development.
Resettlement & Rehabilitation of Project Affected Households.

Awards & Achievements by MRVC are as follows:

i)Indian Merchants Chamber Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality Performance Excellence Trophy-2008 in the Service category. Award was given by Governor of Maharashtra on 24.03.2009.

ii) ‘Safety Award 2008’ on 21.12.2008 by the Institution of Engineers (India) Ltd., for significant contribution to Mumbai suburban system.

iii) 6th Vishwesarayya Achievement Award-2008 on 11.4.2009 for excellence in Construction Projects.

iv) Performance Excellence Award-2009 by Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering on 12th CEO’s Conference on 22.05.2009.

v) Award of Excellence from Ministry of Urban Development towards improvement in Urban Mobility in the city of Mumbai through managing Suburban Rail Mumbai Urban Transport Project, on 05.12.2009.

vi) Greentech Award for outstanding achievement in Environment Management from Greentech Foundation, on 12.10.2009.

vii) 2009 International Business Stieve Awards for Single Market Company of the year in Asia, on 14.09.2009.

viii) India Pride Awards-2010 to recognize the contribution of Public Sector in the Development of Indian Economy, organised by DNA & Dainik Bhaskar Group, on 13.09.2010

ix) MOU Excellence certificate 2008-09 for excellent achievement in MOU targets by Department of Public Enterprises – Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Govt. of India (presented by Dr. Manmohan Sigh, Hon’ble Prime Minister, on 15.12.2010.

x) ‘Excellence in Project Management Award’ from Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering (IIIE) on 23.02.2010.
