Shah Jahan moved his capital from Agra to Old Delhi (traditionally known as Shahjahanabad) in 1638. He reigned from 1628 to 1658.

Shah Jahan's reign is also known as Golden Age of Mughal Era.
He was the son of Emperor Jahangir and his Hindu Rajput wife, Taj Bibi Bilqis Makani.
He was born on 5 January 1592 at Lahore, Pakistan.
He had 9 spouses:
Kandahari Begum
Akbarabadi Mahal
Mumtaz Mahal
Qudsia Begum
Muti Begum
Fatehpuri Mahal
Shrimati Manbhavathi
Sarhindi Begum
Hasina Begum
He died on 22 January 1666 at the age of 74. He and his wife Mumtaz Mahal were buried at Taj Mahal, Agra.
He was succeeded by Aurangzeb.
