2. If b<d and a=2b and c=-2d then (a) a<c (b) b=d (c) a=c (d) a>c

3. If the side of a square is increased by 10% then its area is increased by? (a) 20% (b) 12% (c) 121% (d) 21%

4. The equation (x-1)-2/ (x-1)= -2/(x-1) has (a) One root (b) a double root (c) No roots (d) a root with a non-zero imaginary part

Re: MSC Physics Entrance Question Papers

The previous year M Sc Physics question paper for preparation of Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Examination (JNUEE) is as follows:

Two identical tuning forks, vibrating with identical amplitude at the frquency of 660 Hz, are being brought towards a microphone from opposite directions with speeds of 1 m/s and 2 m/s, respectively.
Around a time when one tuning fork is 40 cm away from the microphone and the other one is 60 cm away, the wave pattern recorded by the microphone will be characterized by a
(a) frequency of 660 Hz with constant amplitude
(b) frequency of 662 Hz with constant amplitude
(c) frequency of 658 Hz with constant amplitude
(d) frequency close to 660 Hz, but amplitude modulating at 2 Hz
(e) frequency close to 660 Hz, but amplitude modulating at 4 Hz

Suppose 300 g of water at 97ºC is poured into a cup (also of mass 300 g) that is at a temperature of 25ºC. If the specific heats of the cup and water are 820 J/kg-K and 4100 J/kg-K, respectively, the changes in the entropy of the water and the cup (after they attained equilibrium) are, respectively
(a) –41and 45 J/K
(b) –40 and 50 J/K
(c) –137 and 150 J/K
(d) –133 and 167 J/K
(e) –55 and 55 J/K

The density of copper, which has a face-centred cubic (fcc) lattice structure, is 8.9 gm/cm3. Given that the molar mass of copper is 63.55, the length of a side of the cubic cell is
(a) 0.45 nm
(b) 0.57 nm
(c) 0.29 nm
(d) 0.23 nm
(e) 0.36 nm

In the Larger Electron Positron (LEP) collider electrons were accelerated to an energy of 100
GeV. The ratio of the de-Broglie wavelength of these electrons to the de-Broglie wavelength of an electron in the ground state of a hydrogen atom is of the order of
(a) 10–5
(b) 10–7
(c) 10–9
(d) 10–11
(d) 10–13
