Re: MBA vs CFA
An MBA is the traditional route into investment banking, but it’s lack of technical training and MBAs are gravitating away from finance anyway. The CFA gives a great technical grounding, but doesn’t necessarily give you the management nous to navigate the financial services industry into the senior ranks. Cost The CFA is the cheaper option than MBA It’s between $650-1280 to take each exam, By contrast, tuition fees for MBAs at large business schools are anywhere between $60-100k, and that’s before an additional $40k is added on for books and living costs. Time The CFA Institute recommends that you study for 300 hours before you take one of their tests All exams are offered in June, and Level I is offered in December. It usually takes longer — between 2.5 and 3 years. Most Business School programs are two year programs. If you're doing it part time, it could be longer. Compensation PayScale People that are only CFA charterholders tend to make $27,000 more than people that only have a MBA, and $13,000 more than people that only have a MBA in Finance. |
