While a degree in International Relations does not show the way to a specific career in the way that, accounting or engineering does, a major in International Relations, by emphasizing precision in speech and writing, analytical skills and a detailed knowledge of world politics prepares students for careers in Government, Journalism, Law, Non-governmental organizations, International business, Teaching and Research. The Different types of jobs are Foreign Service The best-known international career is undoubtedly diplomacy. The lead institution is in the Foreign Service of the United States. Other Government Agencies The large no of people working in international affairs in Washington work for agencies other than the State Department. Defense Department The intelligence organizations like Central Intelligence Agency National Security Agency and Even hires civillians Military careers ROTC groups United Nations The United Nations, situated in New York City, is a fascinating place to work, and it has lots of employees. Jobs on its everlasting staff are allocated on the basis of national quotas. Private Sector: Washington There are a large number of private research groups (often known as the Beltway Bandits, from their place on the Beltway highway around Washington. Private Sector: International Business Multinational corporations play a outstanding role in current international affairs. Private Sector: Non-Profit There are factually hundreds of private, volunteer organizations which work in international affairs; they are so significant that they have been awarded the ultimate distinction of their own. University Teaching and Research American universities hand out, among other things, as repositories for international expertise. Faculty work within departments, more often than not organized around the major disciplines such as economics, political science, and history. |
