Annamalai University was established back in the year of 1929 and is one of Asia's largest public residential universities located in Annamalai Nagar, Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, India. The university is spread across 1,500 acres (6.1 km2) acres in Chidambaram and offers courses of higher education in science, engineering, humanities, agriculture and arts.

Objectives
The student
§ acquires the knowledge of the concept and principles of philosophy and sociology.
§ applies the knowledge of philosophy in the analysis of present day educational system.
§ applies the knowledge of sociology in the analysis of present day educational system.
§ develops understanding of the concepts and its implications to education.

– Interplay of the two fields – Aims – Curriculum – Methods

Different branches of philosophy and their educational implications.
Ontology – Appearance and reality, change and the

Epistemology and education – different theories of
knowledge – empiricism, rationalism, sense realism, transcendentalism.

Values in life and in education, Different types of values such as aesthetic, intellectual, social, moral and spiritual values – their interrelationship and implications in education

Unit–V : Social Change
Meaning – Types of social change – Relationship between social change and economic change – theories of social change (Cultural, Environmental and Synthetic theory) – Role of teacher in social change.

The minimum requirement for admission in M Ed Program offered by Annamalai University is 50% in B.Ed. / B.A.Ed. / B.Sc.Ed under CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) degree examination of this university or a degree examination in Education of any other University recognised as equivalent thereto. Reservation and relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PWD and other applicable categories shall be as per the rules of the Tamil Nadu State Government.
