Every semester in the MFA program of Pacific University Oregon begins with a 10-day residency at the Oregon coast (winter) or at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon (summer). Residencies feature: Readings, Workshops, Panels, Lectures by award-winning authors of poetry, Fiction and Nonfiction. Residencies are scheduled twice a year in January and June. The next residency will be held on campus, in Forest Grove, Oregon, from June 14-24, 2018. January Residencies: The January residency takes place in the town of Seaside on the Oregon Coast. It begins the semester that runs from January to May. Travel and Accommodation: Seaside is approximately two-and-one-half hours by car from the Portland Airport, Students can take a bus from Portland to Seaside through AMTRAK. Students and faculty stay at several hotels in Seaside, including the Best Western Ocean View Resort. Many of the rooms have views and all have high-speed Internet, a small refrigerator and a microwave. A library, restaurants and shops are within easy walking distance. June Residencies: The June residency takes place on the Pacific University campus in Forest Grove, Oregon. It begins the semester that runs from June to December. Travel and Accommodations: Forest Grove is approximately an hour by car from the Portland Airport. Students can take a Pacific contract bus from the Portland Airport to Forest Grove or catch the Light Rail MAX LINE from PDX to Hillsboro and then a short shuttle ride to campus. Commencement: The June residency includes a formal ceremony for students who are graduating in June and for those who have graduated in the previous January. Friends and family of graduates are invited to attend commencement and the celebration afterward. The next commencement is scheduled for the afternoon of June 23, 2018.
