Re: Library Science In North Bengal University

The Department of Library and Information Science in University of North Bengal was setup in 1990-91 under 7th plan of Govt. of India. Started with self-support it made its strong footprint into the academic domain under the leadership of Dr. Chakraborty with active support from the professionals engaged in the university library.

Its students excelled in the work places throughout India. Although BLIS was the prime course that had been taught near about 15years, a gradual social demand for introducing Masters Course in Library Science was paramount. In 2005, Masters Course was started.

Development of a separate building for the department adjacent to the Central Library was a welcome move. Again in 2011-12 the space of the building was enhanced.

Its primary objective was to develop skilled manpower. Updated and modernized syllabus, well equipped computer lab, imbibed the students to explore the profession in better way.
