The Judge Advocate General's (JAG) permits law students to receive a commission in the inactive Naval Reserve while attending law school. This is the best way to become a Navy JAG.

Eligibility:

The applicant must be a United States citizen of good moral character.

The candidate must not have reached 35 years of age at time of commissioning

The applicant must meet the physical requirements for appointment in the JAG Corps.

The applicant have taken the Law School Admission Test (LSAT),

The applicant must be a law student with at least one year of school completed and the applicant must attending an American Bar Association (ABA) approved school.

Training:

- OIS (5 wks, if possible, done summer prior to 3rd yr, otherwise after Bar exam)
- Naval Justice School (9 wks)
- NLSO Orientation (1 wk)
- Ship Orientation (2 wks)
