Bangalore University is situated in the Garden City of Bangalore apropos hailed as the "I.T. Capital of India", was built up in July 1964 as an off shoot of the University of Mysore, principally to incorporate organizations of higher learning situated in the metropolitan city of Bangalore and the locale of Bangalore, Kolar and Tumkur, which in the end turned into a different college. At first, the two head schools of the city, the Central College (CC) and the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) shaped the core of Bangalore University.

The University presented Honors Courses in the year 1965-66. Three year Honor's courses in Botany, Chemistry, Economics, English, Geology, Kannada, Mathematics and Zoology which were offered just at the University Post Graduate Departments have pulled in numerous splendid understudies. Respects passed understudies were confessed to Post Graduate Courses on need and B.A./B.Sc. graduates, who insignificantly missed admission to the Post Graduate Courses were given a chance to join the last year Honors course and look for admission to Post Graduate Courses, from that point.
