Re: Job after Ph.D in Philosophy and qualifying UGC NET exam
Philosophy, especially some areas within ethics and political philosophy, is plausibly a high-value area for research, and, if one is successful within philosophy, may also provide a good basis for impact via being a public intellectual. Individuals who have completed PhD in Philosopht can look for a job in many sectors which can range from specialist in HR, interviewer, consultant, student affairs, public service, journalism, research, law, diplomacy, insurance, etc. Graduates who have done research on philosophy can also opt for teaching jobs in research institutes, universities and in colleges. Philosophers are also employed in a great variety of non-academic fields, as well as in non academic positions in Universities & colleges. The following list is representative, though far from exhaustive: Business Enterprisers Computers and Technology Consulting Education Non Academic Engineering. Finance Government (federal) Government (state and local) Insurance. Law Marketing. Media: free-lance writer; executive editor of a magazine; TV producer. Medicine: director of a provincial medical association; hospital administrator; nurse; nursing administrator; physician; veterinary oncologist. Publishing: director of a university press; editor; employees of university and commercial presses. Real Estate. Religious Ministry Research: business, educational, governmental, and scientific. Sales: many branches. Technical Writing. Basic Eligibility for UGC-NET exam: The essential eligibility for appearing in UGC-NET exam is a Master degree or equivalent in related subjects. The aspirant must have a minimum of 55% (54.99% is not eligible) in this. The aspirants appearing or have appeared for final year examination are also eligible. For appearing aspirants must produce their degree certificate within one year from the date of this test, otherwise they will be disqualified. The NET will be compulsory even for the candidates with Ph.D. The NET is must for the post of lecturer. |
