Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) or Sriharikota High Altitude Range (SHAR) is a rocket launch centre operated by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

SDSC SHAR, with two launch pads is the main launch centre of ISRO located at 100 km north of Chennai.

It has the necessary infrastructure for launching satellite into low earth orbit, polar orbit and geostationary transfer orbit.

The launch complexes provide complete support for vehicle assembly, fuelling, checkout and launch operations. Apart from these, it has facilities for launching sounding rockets meant for studying the earth’s atmosphere.

Its achievements include establishment of launch complexes for Sounding rockets, SLV- 3, ASLV and PSLV. Launch complex augmented for GSLV.

Its vision is control space technology for national development, while pursuing space science research and planetary exploration.

Its mission is implementation of innovative and professional mission management philosophy to meet the increased launch frequency.

Conceptualization, Design, Development and Operationalization of cost-efficient and reliable launch systems and associated facilities for PSLV, GSLV and advanced launch vehicles to orbit satellites for earth observation, navigation, communication, human space flight and space research requirements.
