IRS officer is the highest official post for administration of direct and indirect taxes. The administration of direct taxes and indirect taxes are controlled by Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC). IRS exam: Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts civil service exam for recruitment to IRS. Selection procedure: Selection procedure for IRS is divided into following 3 phases. Candidates should have to pass all three phases. 1. preliminary test called Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT) 2. main exam 3. interview Eligibility to be an IRS Officer: 1. Educational Qualification Candidate must have a graduation degree from an Indian University or an equivalent qualification. 2. Age Minimum age: 21 years Maximum age: 30 years 3. Other Eligibility Conditions • Citizen of India, or • Subject of Nepal, or • Subject of Bhutan, or • Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or • person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. IRS Officer Career Prospects: Starting with “Assistant Commissioner (Starting of the ladder)” post IRS officers rise up to “Chief Commissioner” After some time reach to a post of “Member/Chairperson - CBDT / CBEC (Apex of the ladder)” |

The Indian Revenue Service abbreviated as IRS, is the administrative revenue service of the Central Civil Services of the Government of India. Selection will be based on following process: Examination is done in two phases: Preliminary Examination Main Examination Exam Pattern of IRS: Civil Services Preliminary Examination (CSAT) Civil Services Main Examination and Personal Interview Candidates have Number of attempts permitted: General 4 OBC 7 PH 7 SC/ST No Limit Eligibility Criteria for IRS exam: Candidate should graduate from recognized university. Final year candidate are also eligible for this exam. Nationality- must be Indian Age: General 21 to 30 year OBC 21 to 33 year SC/ST 21 to 35 year |
