IPS (Indian Police Services) Officer is one of the most coveted positions in civil administration of the Indian Democratic setup. This profession not only provides you the self satisfaction but also provides the opportunity to show very best. To add to it you get a highly respected post in the internal security system of a vast and diversified country and the chance to serve the society by taking head on some antisocial elements of the country.

In this service you need your mouth a lot so stammering may technically not a problem for you but in practice when comes to reality it is a problem.

In physical criteria for post of IPS officer there is no criteria for problem like Stammering. They only have criteria about followings:
Height
Chest
BP
Eye sight

But they also mentioned in that is your other body organs must function properly. If your stammering problem is not that much and if it can be cured with some professional doctor then it will be better for you to fulfill your dream.


Physical Requirement to become IPS Officer:

Height – Male 165 cm & ST (not the SC/ OBC) – 160 cm

Female 150 cm & ST (not SC/ OBC)- 145 cm

Chest – Male Minimum 84 cm. Expansion 5 cm.

Female Min 79 cm expansion 5 cm

Eye sight – 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye

6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye
Near vision J 1 for good eye
J2 for worst eye


Eligibility to be an IPS Officer:

Educational Qualification:
Candidate must possess a degree from an Indian University or an equivalent qualification. Those in the final year of a degree course can also appear in the Preliminary Examination taken every year by UPSC.

Age:
The candidate must have attained the age of 21 years on 1st August of the year of examination and must not have attained 30 years of age on that date.

The upper age limit will be relaxed by 3 years for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

The upper age limit is also relaxed in favor of Defense Services Personnel.

Nationality:
1. For IPS, the candidate must be a citizen of India.
2. For other services, a candidate must be either:
a citizen of India, or
a subject of Nepal, or
a subject of Bhutan, or
a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Sorry to sat that candidates with Stammering Problem are not eligible to become an IPS officer .

IPS officer exam Physical and Medical standards:

Nasal- candidate should not stammer while speaking.

Ladies should not be pregnant at the time of Medical Test.

Ear- good listening & normal ear cavity. 1000 to 4000 frequency hearing impairment shd not be more than 30 decibels.

Blood pressure (High) – Age 23 – 123, age 24 – 124, age 25 –122, age 28 – 124, age 30 –125, age 32 – 126, age 34 – 127.

Height – Male 165 cm Pahari Male (general also) & ST (not the SC/ OBC) – 160 cm

Female 150 cm Pahari Female (general also) & ST (not SC/ OBC)- 145 cm

Female Min 79 cm expansion 5 cm.

Chest – Male Minimum 84 cm. Expansion 5 cm.

Eye sight – 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye. 6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye.
J2 for worst eye.
Near vision J 1 for good eye.

Four attempts for open, seven for OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs.

Applicants must have completed Graduation in any discipline from a recognized university .

Age limit --- 21 years must be completed on 1st August of the year, which a candidate is appearing.

Ex-servicemen will get 5 more years exemption from the prescribed age limit

Maximum 30 for general category, 33 for OBCs and 35 for SCs/STs .
