IPS is the Indian Police Service post exam which has been conducted by the UPSC department in the month of May.

Eligibility to be an IPS Officer

Educational Qualification

Degree from an Indian University or an equivalent qualification. Those in the final year of a degree course can also appear in the Preliminary Examination taken every year by UPSC.

Age

Age must be between 21 years to 30 years.
The upper age limit will be relaxed by 3 years for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.
The upper age limit is also relaxed in favor of Defense Services Personnel.

Nationality-

For IPS, the candidate must be a citizen of India.
For other services, a candidate must be either:

a citizen of India, or
a subject of Nepal, or
a subject of Bhutan, or
a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Special Physical Requirements for IPS

Minimum height of 165 cm for Men and 150 cm for Women (minimum height is relaxable to 160 and 145 cm for Men and Women respectively in the case of candidates belonging to ST and to races such as Gorkhas, Garhwalias, Assamese, Kumaonis, Nagaland Tribals etc.)

Min Chest girth fully expanded: 84 cm for Men and 79 cm for Women. Expansion of 5 cm for Men and Women.

Total amount of Myopia (including the cylinder) should not exceed minus 4.00 D and total amount of Hypermetropia (including the cylinder) should not exceed plus 4.00 D

Presence of Squint is a disqualification

Preliminary Exam

It consisting of two papers.

Paper 1- 200 marks

Current events of national and international importance
History of India and Indian national movement
Indian and World Geography- physical, social, economic geography of India and the world
Indian Polity and governance – constitution, political system, panchayati raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc.
Economic and social development – sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives etc.
General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change-that do not require subject specialization
General science.

Paper 2 - 200 marks

Comprehension
Interpersonal skills including communication skills
Logical reasoning and analytical ability
Decision making and problem solving
General mental ability
Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc. (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. –Class X level)
English language comprehension skills (Class X level)

The optional subject for the second paper may be chosen from the following given subjects:

As per your requirement I am describing the eligibility criteria to become and Indian Police Service (IPS) officer.

Eligibility Criteria for IPS

Nationality


A citizen of India, or
A subject of Nepal, or
A subject of Bhutan, or
A Tibetan refugee, or
A person of Indian origin

Education:

Applicant need to pass gradation degree in any discipline form recognized university. Applicants who are in final year may also eligible to apply.

Age Criteria:

Applicant age should be between 21 years to 30 years. 5 years age relaxations given to SC/ST categories students and 3 years age relaxations given to SC/ST categories students.

Selection procedure: Selection of the candidate depends on followings:

Prelim Exam
Main Exam
Interview
