Re: Institute For Fisheries Management And Coastal Community Development
Well the Institute For Fisheries Management And Coastal Community Development is a Non-profit organisation It is doing research on socio-economic and institutional aspects of fisheries management and development in coastal communities. IFM provides advisory services to national and international public authorities, institutions and organisations in Denmark and world-wide. IFM is collaborating with the International Center for Living Aquatic Resources Management (ICLARM) and national aquatic research institutions The Institute is collaborating with a number of European research institutions on co-management issues from the European perspective. IFM also undertakes research on alternative fisheries management systems to investigate ways to improve legitimacy of fisheries regulations. In the European context, this includes research on effort regulation and technical measures as alternatives or supplements to the current system of regulation by quotas. The research will be carried out in cooperation with local authorities and international organisations. The main orientation of IFM's research activities is to examine fisheries management from the perspective of fishers and fishing communities. This means that the research agenda of the institute is focussed on fisheries co-management between fisheries administrations and the user-groups IFM has expanded its research agenda into the development of methods for integrated coastal zone management. In this the fisheries interests will be balanced against the interests of other stakeholders such as agriculture, tourism, sea transport and water power.
