Membership Grades and Criteria
Institute of Directors or IoD Membership is open to everyone with senior level responsibilities. One do not require to be a registered director or working in a commercial entity to be eligible for membership.

One is eligible to join - Member grade or Associate grade - one of two categories dependent upon one’s professional experience. Regardless of whether one is a Member or Associate one will still be able to access all of the products and services.

Membership Grades
The Institute has four grades of membership which is based primarily on one's experience, Associate, Member, Fellow and Student.
Associate and Member grades give one an identical package of benefits and services and the membership subscription fees are the same.
As a Member of the Institute, one will also be allowed to use the designation MIoD after one’s name for the duration of one’s membership.
As an Associate member, one may upgrade one’s membership in line with the criteria given below:

Membership
Membership of the Institute of Directors is open for one of the following:
• Incorporated company
• Business unit or association
• Professional or other partnership
• Not-for-profit organization, charity or trust
• Non-departmental public body
• Local or national government
• Academic or training organization
• Armed forces organization
• Similar body whose activities and strategies require direction.
If one does not meet Member criteria one may apply as an Associate.

Membership fees and Discounts
Membership costs £370 for 1 year with a one-off election fee of £220.
Discounts are available if one would like to join for multiple years or if more than one person from one’s institute joins at the same time.
If one is aged 30 or under there is no election fee charged
