Indian Navy offers a professional support system wherein as one spends time get trained and groomed to rise up the career ladder. It has a very fair and just system of promotions, wherein hard work, sincerity, skills and talent are given due recognition and rewarded. The following graphs presents the officer ranks of the Indian Navy. These ranks generally correspond with those of Western militaries, and reflect those of the British military ranks: Rank Officer Sailor Admiral Master Chief Petty Officer Ist Class Vice Admiral Master Chief Petty Officer IInd Class Rear Admiral Chief Petty Officer Commodore Petty Officer Captain Leading Rate Commander Seaman Ist Class Lieutenant Commander Seaman 2nd Class Lieutenant Sub Lieutenant Midshipman Promotion to Officer Rank Sailors who possess unique leadership qualities and fulfill requisite conditions in terms of age, education etc. can desire to become Commissioned Officer in the Navy through Commission worthy (CW) scheme and Special Duties (SD) scheme. One can wish to Command Ships and Units and even rise to become Admirals. While the provision for the rank of Admiral of the Fleet exists, it is primarily intended for major wartime use and honour. The highest ranked naval officer is the Chief of Naval Staff. India uses the Midshipman rank in its navy, and all future officers carry the rank upon entering the Indian Naval Academy. They are commissioned Sub-lieutenants upon finishing the course of study. |
