The National Institute of Sciences of India, now the Indian National Science Academy, was inaugurated on 7 January 1935 at Calcutta.

The Indian National Science Academy has instituted 65 awards including 34 awards Medal/Lecture from endowments received to perpetuate the memory of leading Scientists of the country.

These awards are divided into following categories.
