A merchant navy or merchant marine is the fleet of merchant vessels that are registered in a certain country.

The birth of the modern Indian Merchant Navy occurred before independence from the United Kingdom, when in 1919 SS Loyalty sailed from India to Britain.

Eligibility:

Candidates must have passed 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Candidates have to be unmarried Indian citizens

Candidate also need to complete a ship-training course prior to the employment. The course is generally short-term


Age Limit : Not more than 25 Yrs at the commencement of course

Educational Qualification:

For 10+2 Science students: from a recognized University with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, with not less than 65% marks .

For BSc students: With Physics as an individual subject in any one of the years of B.Sc., with not less than 60% marks in the final year of B.Sc., from a recognized University

For BE/B.Tech Students: Degree from I.I.T. or from a college recognized by AICTE/UGC/DEC.

English Should have passed with not less than 60% marks in English as a separate subject, from recognized Board/University.

Selection process :


Admission is through an entrance followed by a screening test and a main written examination.

After clearing the test, there is an interview and a medical test.
