The Indian Administrative Service(I.A.S) is the premier administrative civil service of India.

I.A.S. officers hold key and strategic positions in the Union Government, States and public-sector undertakings.

In pursuance of sub-rule (1) of rule 8 of the Indian Administrative Service (Recruitment) Rules, 1954, the Central Government in consultation with the State Governments and the
Union Public Service Commission hereby makes the following regulations, namely:-

In these regulations unless the context otherwise requires –

“Cadre Officer” means a member of the Service;

“Cadre Post” means any of the posts specified as such in the regulations made under sub-rule (1) of rule 4 of the Cadre Rules;

“Cadre Rules” means the Indian Administrative Service (Cadre) Rules, 1954;

“Committee” means the Committee set up in accordance with regulation 3

“Commission” means the Union Public Service Commission

“Recruitment Rules” means the Indian Administrative Service (Recruitment) Rules, 1954;

“Schedule” means a Schedule appended to these regulations

“Service” means the Indian Administrative Service
