Indian Institute of Technology Patna is one of the new IITs set up by a demonstration of parliament on August 06, 2008. It keeps running from its travel grounds in Patliputra Colony, Patna

Patna which was known as Patliputra has been a focal point of learning subsequent to long has been pulling in guests and researchers from numerous parts of the world, for example, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Sri Lanka, among others.

IIT Patna has three schools – (1) School of Engineering comprising of the accompanying Departments to be specific, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering (2) School of Basic Sciences comprising of Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics Departments (3) School of Humanities comprising of Humanities and Social Science Department

IIT Patna has shifted in its newly constructed permanent campus at Bihta Patna

 Name of Buildings: Boys Hostel (930 Rooms) with dinning, common room etc., Girls Hostel and Guest House in B type Quarters, B type Quarters (108 Nos), D type Quarters (64 Nos), Hospital, School, Directors residence, MRSS and Substations
 Others: Metal Road, WTP, STP, 33 KV dedicated electrical line.
 Shifting process in main campus started, new session of 2015-16 shall start from main campus at Bihta, Patna.
