At IIT Kharagpur has the School of Information Technology was started with the objective of promoting research and development, industrial consultancy, and teaching in the frontier areas of Information Technology.

The School is offers MTech, M.S. and Ph.D. programmes.

The School is conducted PGDIT (Post Graduate Diploma in Information Technology) programme in the distance mode at Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, and Kharagpur to facilitate cross migration to the field of IT.
