Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) conducts its UPSC Prelims and Mains examination for recruitment to IAS, IPS, IFS Group 'A' and some Group 'B' services. Important Dates for Preliminary Exam Starting Date of Registration: 31st May 2014 Last Date for Receipt of Applications: 30th June 2014, till 11.59 p.m. Date of Examination: 24th August 2014 Eligibility Nationality You should be a citizen of India. Age Limit -You must be atleast 21 years of age and less than 31 years of age -The upper age limit is relaxed upto a maximum of : SC / ST 5 OBC 3 Defense Services personnel 3 Domiciled in J&K during the period 01/01/1980 - 31/12/1989 5 Educational Qualification - You must be a graduate from a recognized university or a deemed university. Test Duration & Pattern (Preliminary Examination 2014) Paper I : General Studies (GS) - 200 marks - 2 hours Subject Area Current events of national & international importance History of India and Indian National Movement Indian and World Geography - Phsical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the world Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Right Issues, etc. Economic and Social Development - Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc. General issues on Environmentel Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialisation General Science Negative Marking: 1/3rd of marks allotted for every question Paper II : Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT) - 200 marks - 2 hours Subject Area Comprehension Interpersonal skills including communication skills Logical Reasoning & Analytical Ability Decision-making & Problem-solving General Mental Ability Basic Numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (CLass X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc. - Class X Level) English Language Comprehension Skills (Class X Level) Negative Marking: 1/3rd of marks allotted for every question |
